家族の弁護士：子供たちはいたって普通の子

(2010年6月21日)キング・オブ・ポップの相続人として、彼らはショービジネス界の王族かもしれない。しかしプリンス、パリスそしてブランケットは、茶目っ気があり悪戯好きで、お互いに愛情を注ぎ、そして彼らの保護者である祖母を思う普通の子供である。

キャサリン・ジャクソンの弁護士アダム・ストレイサンドはキャサリンが子供たちと暮らす家族の邸宅を頻繁に訪れている。彼はAP通信とのインタビューで、彼らの守られた世界の中の様子を語った。

ストレイサンドによると、子供たちは彼らの父のことをよく話すという。そして彼らが住むサンフェルナンド・バレーの農場風の邸宅には、彼らの父の存在感がいたるところにあるのだという。絵画や記念品が壁に飾られている。門のあるこの邸宅には、付属の住居がありその他の家族のメンバーが長年暮らしている。

ストレイサンドは語る。「子供たちは見たところ、普通が特殊な環境になりかねないほど普通です」

ストレイサンドによれば、ジャクソンの大家族は子供たちにとって精神的な支えになっており、子供たちは従兄たちとよく遊んでいるという。そしてこの1年間、マイケル・ジャクソンの両親、子供たち、兄弟たちは、彼の音楽はあるものの、しかし彼がいないという世界で生きてきた。

ストレイサンドによれば、子供たちは父の「This Is It」コンサートのリハーサル映画を観たが、息子の死によって受けた精神的打撃がいまだ癒えないキャサリン・ジャクソンはまだ観ていないという。

ロンドンのデイリー・メール紙との先日のインタビューで、キャサリン・ジャクソンは毎日息子を恋しく思っていること、しかし彼の魂は3人の子供たちの中に見えること、子供たちは息子よりも「少しだけ甘く」育てていることなどを語った。

ストレイサンドによると、プリンス(13)は映画作りに興味を持ち始め、妹、弟そして従兄たちが自分たちのホームムービーで主演をしているという。ストレイサンドは言う。「彼らは小道具やセットも持ってますよ。一人が監督をやります。彼らは全員役割を持ってるんですよ」。最近、フィルムの一部分がYouTubeに流出したが、彼らのホームメード・ムービーからのシーンかもしれないその映像には、パリスとブランケットが映っていた。キャサリンはデイリー・メール紙に対して、パリスは寝室の壁に父のために写真で祭壇のようなものを作っていること、女優になりたがっていることなどを語った。

ソーシャル・ワーカーが訪問することとなった3月の騒動は、子供たちの映画作り活動が原因になったのだとストレイサンドは語る。ジャーメインの息子ジャファー(13)はネット上のスタンガンの広告を見て、通販でそれを買った。映画の小道具になると思ったのだ。タオルに向けて試し撃ちをした時、セキュリティが駆け付けた。怪我人はいなかった。

またストレイサンドによれば、子供たちは映画を観るのがとても好きで、特にアクションやファンタジー映画が好きだという。大抵、24時間体制で勤務しているセキュリティが車で連れて行っている。それから彼らは熱心な空手の生徒で、空手のクラスで友だちもできたという。

父の死去以来、子供たちは父が設けたホームスクーリングを続けている。一部屋が敷地内の建物の中に確保されていて、家庭教師が授業をする教室に作りかえられている。しかし秋には、プリンスがこの教室を離れ、私立学校へ通うことになっている。プリンス自身と祖母の選択である。12歳の妹パリスがプリンスと同じ選択をするかどうかはまだ決まっていないが、デイリー・メール紙のインタビューでキャサリンは3人全員がそうするだろうと示唆している。

ストレイサンドは8歳のブランケットを、「とてもキュートで魅力的、とても利発な子、父親ととてもよく似ている」と表現した。

彼らの叔父ジャッキー・ジャクソンは、子供たちは「休みをとても楽しみにしている」と語った。彼らはディズニーワールド、ワシントンDCのスミソニアン博物館など、「楽しめると同時に学べる」場所へ行く計画を立てているという。

80歳になったばかりのキャサリン・ジャクソンに関して言えば、彼女の生活は旋風のようになっている。彼女は子供たちの活動の監督に忙しくしている一方で、マイケルの遺産の管理にも関わっている。遺言執行人ではないが、彼女は管理人ジョン・ブランカとジョン・マクレーンから、彼らが取り組んでいる様々なプロジェクトに関して逐次報告を受けている。

「彼女はエネルギッシュで活動的です。健康はパーフェクトです」とストレイサンドは言う。「彼女は遺産の問題に関して自分のしたいこととそうでないことについてはっきりした考えを持っています」。彼女は「Never Can Say Goodbye: The Katherine Jackson Archives」という本を出版しようとしている。それは彼女の息子のプライベートな写真が多数掲載されている。

「世界に本当のマイケルを知って欲しいのです」と彼女はデイリー・メール紙に語っている。「彼は愛情深い人だったと、記憶に残って欲しいのです」。

　■ Family Attorney: Children Just Normal Kids
(21-6-2010) As heirs of the King of Pop they may be showbiz royalty but, Prince, Paris and Blanket Jackson are just normal kids full of fun and pranks, devoted to each other and to their grandmother who is their guardian, according to a lawyer who sees them frequently.

Adam Streisand, attorney for Kathrine Jackson, ia a frequent visitor to the family compound where she lives with the children. He provided an account of life inside their guarded world in an interview with The Associated Press.

According to Streisand, the children talk about their father often and his presence is everywhere in the ranch-style home in the San Fernando Valley where they live. Pictures and memorabilia adorn the walls. The gated compound has additional residences where other family members have lived over the years.

Streisand says, "The children are seemingly as normal as normal can be under pretty extraordinary circumstances."

Streisand says Jackson's large extended family has been a source of emotional support for the children, who frequently play with their cousins. And over the past year, Michael Jackson's parents, children and siblings have moved on with their lives in a world with his music but without him.

Streisand says the children have seen their father's 'This Is It' concert rehersal film but that Katherine Jackson, still devastated by the death of her son last June, has not.

In a recent interview with London's Daily Mail Katherine Jackson said she misses her son every day but sees his spirit in his three children, whom she is raising "a little less strict" than her son would have.

According to Streisand, Prince, 13, has developed an interest in filmmaking, and his brother, sister and cousins have been starring in their own home movies. Streisand says, "They have props and sets, and one of them acts as director. They all have roles." Recently, a clip of film was leaked to YouTube showing Paris and Blanket in what may have been scenes from one of their home-made movies. Katherine told the Daily Mail that Paris, who has a photo shrine to her father on her bedroom wall, wants to be an actress.

The one disturbance that brought social workers to the home in March stemmed from the kids' moviemaking efforts, Streisand says. Jermaine's son, Jafar, 13, saw an Internet ad for a stun gun and bought it by mail, thinking it could be a prop for their movies. When he tried shooting it into a towel, security guards came running. No one was injured.

Streisand also says the children love to go to the movies, especially action and fantasy films, and are usually transported by security guards who are also on duty at the family compound 24 hours a day. They are avid students of karate and have made friends at their karate classes.

Since their father's death the children have continued with the homeschooling that he set up. A room had been set aside in a building at the home compound and turned into a classroom where a tutor conducts classes. But in the fall, Prince will leave the cloistered home to attend private school, a choice that was made by him and his grandmother. Whether his 12 year old sister, Paris, will join him is still undecided, although in the Daily Mail interview Katherine suggested all three of the children would.

Streisand desscribed eight year old Blanket "totally cute and personable - a very bright little boy who looks a lot like his father."

In a brief interview earlier this week, their uncle, Jackie Jackson, said the children were "very excited about going on vacation." They plan to visit Disney World, the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C., and other locations where "they can learn as well as have a good time."

As for Katherine Jackson, who recently turned 80, life has become a whirlwind. She is busy overseeing the children's activities, but is also involved in the administration of Michael's estate. Although not an executor, she is kept informed by the estate administrators, John Branca and John McClain, on various projects that are undertaken.

"She is energetic and active. Her health is perfect," says Streisand. "She has very clear ideas about what she wants and does not want as to estate matters." She is also releasing a book, "Never Can Say Goodbye: The Katherine Jackson Archives," filled with private family photos of her son.

"I want the world to know the real Michael," she told the Daily Mail. "I'd like him to be remembered as the loving person he was."

Streisand also said that Katherine has made it clear that she does not want Neverland to be sold, and for the time being, it is not on the market. However, the 2,700 acre spread costs millions to maintain and a decision to sell could be reconsidered in the future.
