「Billie Jean」を歌うマイケル・ジャクソンを真似するブラジル人タクシー・ドライバーがスターとなり、彼の動画は400万ヒットを記録してインターネット上で大評判となっている。彼の名はジーン・カルロス・リベロ・マチャド。動画は、彼の素晴らしいボーカルの噂を聞いた乗客が撮影したものである。ブラジル南東部ベロ・オリゾンテ出身の彼は、X Factorに似た才能発掘番組のおかげで今やメガスターだ。

当時を振り返り、ジーンは自分への反響がこれほどとは分からなかったという。「ディエゴという名の客を拾うようにという電話を受けたんだ。車の中で彼が、電話係が僕がマイケル・ジャクソンと同じように歌うと言ってた、って言ったんだよ」

Do you remember in early February we gave you a link to see a Brazilian taxi driver imitating Michael singing ‘Billie Jean?’ Well, that cabbie is now a star and an internet sensation with four million hits. His name is Jean Carlos Ribiero Machado and the clip was filmed by a passenger who had been told of his amazing vocals. Jean, from Belo Horizonte, was quickly signed up and is now a megastar thanks to talent shows similar to the X Factor.

Recalling the start of his career, Jean said he had no idea how much of a stir his impression had caused. He said: “I got a call to pick up a fare, a guy named Diego. In the car he told me that the operator had said that I sang the same as Michael Jackson.”
